|Today, the House Education, Administration and Planning Committee passed House Bill 2131. Sponsored by state Representative Courtney Rogers (R-45), HB 2131 will next be heard by the House Calendar and Rules Committee. If passed, this bill will then head to the House floor for a vote. On March 7, HB 2131’s companion bill, Senate Bill 1991, sponsored by state Senator Brian Kelsey (R-31), unanimously passed the Senate.
As previously reported, these bills would prohibit public postsecondary institutions from taking any adverse action against an employee or student as a result of such person’s lawful transportation and storage of a firearm or ammunition in the person’s vehicle. This legislation is extremely important to the Second Amendment rights and right to self-defense of students and employees when commuting to and from a postsecondary campus.
HB 2131 is almost through the committee process and your legislators need to hear from you. It is important that you please contact your state Representative and politely urge him or her to support House Bill 2131 when it comes up for a vote.
