October 2017

Welcome to October.

On the night of October 1, 2017, a gunman opened fire on a crowd of concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, leaving 58 people dead and 546 injured.

That act has had and will continue to have effects throughout our lives.

From renewed cries for gun control to increased security in Las Vegas, analysis of what happened and how it was handled will dictate future policies and be the topic of discussion for months to come..

With 2018 SHOT Show just a few months away, it will be interesting to see how things shake out come January.

PRODUCTS
In lighter news, a new poker chip was added to the store and a few more products are in the works that just didn’t make the cut this month.

So next month we hope to have several new items.

VIDEOS
We have however ramped up on production of YouTube videos and added a new content creator, William aka 10mm_ on arfcom.

Look Around
Charles Lasky, Tactical Night Vision Company

Night Vision gives us an extreme advantage in the dark. Obviously, it allows us to see clearly at night when our adversary cannot. But, it can also be a liability if the operator is not aware of his/her surroundings.

While moving under goggles, it is very easy to get sucked into the image right in front of you and be lulled into a false sense of security under your green blanket. After all, you can see in the dark and your adversary cannot.

But, just because you are wearing magic goggles and have a nice clear image in front of you, doesn’t mean you should ignore your peripheral vision. Your goggles will make everything nice and bright and make it harder to distinguish lit and unlit areas.

If you are traveling through a semi-urban area, beware of streetlights and outer lights. It’s super easy to get drawn into the mission and not pay attention to the fact that you are crossing through a lit area where your adversary can see you. Seeing as how night vision provides us unequaled stealth capabilities, you want to use every part of that advantage.

Remember to look around your goggles – to the sides, under and above to see where there is light.

Just sayin’. As always, be safe.

Shall-Issue Concealed Carry Coming Soon to the Nation’s Capital!

In a major development to restore the Second Amendment in the nation’s capital, District of Columbia officials announced last week that they will not appeal a lower court decision to the U.S. Supreme Court that effectively requires the District to issue concealed carry permits to qualified applicants.

The legal issue at stake had centered on whether District officials could require applicants to show a “good” or “proper” reason for needing to carry a concealed handgun that distinguished them from the general population. This meant that most otherwise qualified applicants could not obtain a permit, which is the only way to lawfully carry a loaded, accessible firearm in D.C. for self-defense.

NRA, Others Urge Supreme Court to Review “Assault Weapon,” Magazine Ban

This month, the United States Supreme Court commenced its October sitting. Among the cases that the Court may decide to review is Kolbe v. Hogan, No. 17-127. The case arises out of a challenge to Maryland’s Firearm Safety Act of 2013, a law banning so-called “assault weapons” like AR-15s and other detachable magazine-fed semi-automatic rifles, and the sale and transfer of magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds.
