Harvard, Yale and CNN get mocked over DOPEY idea to stop global warming
“Alexa, show us the dopiest idea ever to fight global warming.”
In summary, these Harvard and Yale scientists studied the feasibility of using aircraft, balloons or modified naval gun to bombard the atmosphere with particles that would block out the sun and this is how CNN wrote the headline:
Harvard and Yale scientists are proposing that we tackle climate change by dimming the sun.
It sounds crazy, but according to their research, it could actually cut the rate of global warming in half: https://t.co/Ty8cCK3J5j

First up, this isn’t a serious proposal and CNN should be ashamed of themselves for treating as such with this science clickbait:
Nowhere in the study do they weigh in on what dimming the sun would do to agriculture and aquatic life (since ocean plants are of critical importance and a less bright sun would impact the depths at which plant life could grow).
The potential drawbacks should be in the article. https://t.co/MSyEkV0qBu

Maybe CNN missed that it’s not a real proposal or that there’s any desire for this?
The study specifically says, "We make no judgment about the desirability…." It's an examination of the costs and technical feasibility, not a proposal. https://t.co/e9WATiNt20

So they invented smoke?
"spraying sun-dimming chemicals into the Earth's atmosphere"
haven't we been doing this since the industrial revolution? https://t.co/9gECejesMB

Well, at least they’re admitting the sun causes global warming. That’s a start at the very least:

Not a good look for Harvard or Yale:

Whenever I see a story that invokes Ivy League scientists finding a solution to anything, I brace myself for the worst idea ever. Once again, they didn't disappoint. https://t.co/jPP1ujXNav

Or maybe Harvard and Yale professors are spending too much time watching “The Simpsons”?
One of the scientists was named C. Montgomery Burns. https://t.co/XuzNs52CkE

Or “The Matrix”:
According to The Matrix, we're supposed to wait until we develop uncontrollable AI before blotting out the sun. https://t.co/pNtFBmbg6w
