Computer Scientist David Gelernter Wants To Revolutionize Social Media
Dr. David Gelernter is a computer science professor at Yale, an author, an artist, an American Genius, and a survivor of a Unabomber attack in 1993. Gelernter, who also invented the first social network, joins Ben Domenech on The Federalist Radio Hour to discuss his concern with the amount of power Facebook holds thanks to the data handed over to the social media giant by its users.
Domenech also asks about discuss bias in tech, data privacy, artificial intelligence, and both the good and bad of technology. Gelernter co-founded Revolution Populi, a project aiming to establish a publicly-governed, decentralized, user-owned blockchain database.
“I don’t think Facebook is destructive and the analogy to tobacco is ridiculous, but certainly we could be getting more, in a positive sense, than we are out of this software,” Gelernter said.
